Our Services

Throughout Rutherford and Cannon Counties in Middle Tennessee, Journeys provides community participation services, industrial training, job training, and placement, as well as special services, residential care, and transportation.

 

These services are provided to more than 120 adults with intellectual disabilities. With their abilities, courage, and joy, the people served by this organization continue to amaze those around them. As a result, the journey is one that is never-ending.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Journeys’ staff provides the support necessary for adults with disabilities to become fully participating members of their communities. Our supported persons are trained to use and develop self-help, communication, socialization and functional academic skills in real-world settings, including stores, restaurants, banks, recreation centers, etc. The people we support also volunteer in the community. The have volunteered with United Way Stuff the Bus, Meals on Wheels, Recycle Rutherford, and several other community programs.

PREVOCATION TRAINING

Individuals receive training at the facility-based location at 1130 Haley Road. In this program, persons are involved in activities and education on the topics of prevocational and independent living skills.  Training may occur in one-to-one settings or small group classes. Classes include the “I Can Work” curriculum, the “Life Skills Instruction” training or arts and crafts activities.

ECF CHOICES PROVIDER

Journeys is a provider of the Employment and Community First CHOICES (ECF CHOICES) program in Tennessee. The program focuses on helping people with disabilities achieve independence and offers a variety of services tailored to the needs of the individual, including residential and family support; job exploration; job training and community services. More information about ECF CHOICES can be found on the DIDD Website (Click Here).

WORKFORCE TRAINING

Independent, competitive employment is the goal of this program. Journeys’ job placement specialists assist the people we support in seeking and gaining competitive employment in the community.

SPECIAL SERVICES/HEATHCARE OVERSIGHT

Journeys strives to meet the special needs of all of the individuals it serves. The Health Care Oversight Program, staffed by case managers, ensures that individuals receive the specialized medical and mental health services they need. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are provided, as well as counseling and social work services.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Journeys believes in supporting the full integration of adults with disabilities into regular neighborhoods and the community at large. The Supported Living Program maintains its participants in their own homes with staff teaching such skills as cooking, housekeeping, grocery shopping and money management.

TRANSPORTATION

The people we support can’t drive. They need accessible, affordable transportation options that bring employment, healthcare, education, housing, and community life within reach. Transportation is provided to those we support in an effort to further their independence. Journeys’ drivers provide safe and reliable transportation to take the people we support to and from work, medical appointments, community service sites, grocery shopping, community events, and an array of other life-enhancing activities.
